The pieces most people reach for — banded "rainbow fluorite" — show layered zones of purple, green, and blue in a single stone, a color shift produced by impurities and radiation during formation, not by any treatment. We tell you plainly when a color is unusually uniform, because dyed tumbled fluorite exists in the market and it shouldn't take a gemologist to spot the difference.
